We all want to have thousands of followers and viewers on our social platforms but is it worth trusting risky websites and spending all your coin for clout!? Check out these Dos and Don'ts to steer you in the direction for some killer self promo.

Do: Promote.

Some people think followers and views appear overnight like the tooth fairy. So they will constantly post without any type of promotion. This ain't it. You're going to have to put yourself out there once you have some content to post.

Don't: Buy followers.

People like to take the easy route and will spend anywhere from $2-$200 for computer generated followers. While it will make it look like you have worked hard to gain a number of followers, you will soon realize that your engagement ratio (how many likes/comments to the number of followers) will be off dramatically. It won't help you in the long run and you'll soon realize you wasted money. Just don't do it.

Do: Engage With Your Followers

Some people think, because they are an influencer/ business they don't have to engage with other people and their posts. Wrong! It actually helps to like and comment under other your peers posts.Once your name is under enough people's posts, people will have no other choice but to click on your profile and see what your page is about. Afterwards, you will see a definite increase in likes and comments. Don't be shy, get active and see your engagement grow!

Don't: Spam Everyone With Your Posts

If you're going to promote a post, don't over do it and post more than whats comfortable for your feed. If you are going to promote a certain post/video, you should only do it 1-2 times. If you heavily promote your page, you can face an adverse reaction from your followers. You will also run the risk of them unfollowing you due to the fact that you are spamming your feed. You want to promote heavy, but be mindful other people are seeing your posts as well.

Do: Rely on other means of promotion.

This one is mainly for my college students. Don't just rely on social media to promote. If you want to promote on a larger scale, use other means such as word of mouth to promote your content. Get comfortable with public speaking and talking to others. Networking is key to having a successful blog and successful self promotion. Get up in front of your class walk around your student center one day and talk to people about your site. It may seem scary at first but you never know what may come from your promoting yourself to your peers.

Don't: Break the bank on promotion.

There are websites and people out there that will charge the top dollar to post and promote your posts for you. Spending a little money here and there on promo is fine but when you're spending $20 to promote one post...you're doing a lot. Stick to using the platform's promotional tools instead of using third party sites that will charge nearly an arm and a leg.

Promotion is a key part into your influencer journey. But don't break the bank on the smaller portion of the grand picture when there are free methods to it all. Happy Finessing!
