As much as we say we're not going to splurge on makeup we always do. Here are some of my tips on when to splurge and when to save.

Splurge: When you have sensitive skin.

Although the drug store is on the rise with some very quality products, not every foundation, mascara or eyeliner isn't going to agree with your skin. If you are a person with very sensitive skin, you may have to spend extra time ( and the extra dollar) to buy makeup that works with your skin type. You don't want to spend extra money on clearing up your skin when you could have just bought the product that worked for you from gate.

Save: When you have multiple on a product.

I know I'm not the only one guilty of this. I will go to the store and buy two or three of the same product because my head rationalized that I needed more brushes. You have to fight the urge to buy something because you're scared that you'll run out of a product. Wait until its completely empty before you go back and buy that same crease brush.....for the 8th time.

(What to Splurge on): Foundation

A good foundation is hard to find. So when you find the foundation for you....you may have to spend that extra coin. There are a number of factors that go into why you should splurge on a foundation. Do you have sensitive skin? Do you have a skin tone that is hard to match? Answered yes to any of those questions, then you should go the extra mile and spend a few more dollars on that foundation.

(What to Save on): Lipgloss

There is no reason why you should spend more than $7 on a good lipgloss. There are a number of lipglosses on the market that are less than $10 that blow the high end lipgloss out the water. Plus, as one of the makeup items that is most likely to get lost on a daily basis. There is no reason why you're blowing a quarter of your check on a lip gloss that you'll lose within days. Pass on that Tom Ford lipgloss and grab you a NYX Butter Gloss.....you'll thank me later.

(What to Splurge On): Eye Shadow

There is a difference in quality when it comes to drug store and high end eyeshadow. When you buy a quality eyeshadow palette, you'll have it for a loooong time. Especially for makeup artists, investing in a quality eyeshadow palette will take you very far in your career. Skip out on the Maybelline palette and treat yourself to an ABH palette....or two.

(What to Save On): Eyeliner

There are so many eyeliners out on the market that you can honestly save on buying a high end eyeliner. Unless you're looking for a specific color, you can find a plethora of different colors and finishes when it comes to eyeliner. You can find a liquid eyeliner for less than $5 that is way more pigmented than any liner in Sephora. Don't even bother with this one. Save your $20 bucks.

Moral of the story: Save your coin unless it is a dire reason.....and I'm talking about life or death. Not because Auntie Jackie told you it was an emergency.
